Paper work

I'm going to buy a house when I move to Texas. I've seen a couple on line that I like. I am planning to drive down and spend a few days looking and putting in offers. Well, I need a pre-approval letter from the bank to do that.

I call the bank and get approved, but I have some 20 pages of forms and other proof of identification before I can actually get the application for the mortgage loan. More than half are VA papers to prove that I'm eligible for it. Some of the papers can't be filled out until I find the house and have the sellers fill them out too.

I call the loan officer and he says that I can wait because those will be sent to me again in a couple of days. That seems quite redundant. Then again ... And, he said that he already sent some forms into the VA to get the eligibility letter. I sent him most of what i had for him today. I printed but didn't fax the TSP information. I lucked out since my quarterly statement will be available in a couple of days and has more in it than the one I was going to fax.

It looks like I'll be in good shape to move right in when I move. I'll probably have to go up one day and close before the big move, but that's ok. Well, I'll be in the house, but my stuff will be there a good while after I get there.

Tip of the day: If you are planning to use your VA loan to get a house, buy a car first. It makes the 2.15 percent one time charge cheaper.
